Apart from Carbon and Hydrogen, organic compound may contain several other elements including Nitrogen, Sulphur, Halogens, Phosphorous, and Oxygen.

They are detected by various methods including Lassaigne’s test, nitroprusside test, blue vitriol test, lead sulphide test, etc..
